Wow, No Thank You by Samantha Irby

“Hello, 911? I’ve been lying awake for an hour each night, reliving a two-second awkward experience I had in front of a casual acquaintance three years ago, for eight months.”

Samantha Irby is back with everything I loved in her previous work! Poop jokes and insights on what its like to be Married With Children and all.

So here is the deal! I read this right after reading We Are Never Meeting in Real Life because I needed the laughs soooo bad! The laughs were delivered and worked their healing magic a second time around, so hallelujah for that!

We Are Never Meeting in Real Life made me laugh harder than this one however, I really enjoyed this read more than the the first? (I don't know how this is possible? I'm a walking contradiction I guess?) Wow, No Thank You had a better chapter flow and I feel Irby found her voice even more in the writing of this book. Irby jokes about her age often in this book. I think her age has everything to do with the slight shift in her writing. Where her last book was funny and relatable, this book felt funny and inspired. I loved reading about her experience writing for Lindy West's TV adaptation of Shrill and her chapter of "Hello 911" had me rolling.

CW: as always Irby's humor involves graphic jokes about her bowel movements, sex, and other hilarious shenanigans. I didn't feel like it was "too much" but some might!
