"I mean, I get that the universe whirls in mysterious yada yada, but wouldn't you rather travel the world?"
"No, I'd rather stay home and read."
The Bookish Life of Nina Hill is the exact definition of a 3-out-of-5 star read for me. Light and airy, interesting plot, quick and easy no matter the page count, and some good humor! Can't go wrong!!
This is the story of Nina Hill a deeply introverted girl who loves books and being alone (me too girl, me too.) She has slipped into a comfortable predictable life of working at a bookstore, trivia nights with friends, and book clubs (this is precisely what I hope heaven will be like). She is shocked out of her cozy life by learning from an attorney that the father she had never known or met passed away and left behind a large and complicated family she never knew existed. She is confronted with the beauty of getting to bond with people that share her blood, and the difficulty her existence brings to this same family.
This is a nice feel-good read with pockets of irreverent humor spread through out and while that made it a fun read, the thing I deeply appreciated about this book is the way it brought an accurate representation of what it is like to live with anxiety. I have read so many books that have aimed to show just that, but have fallen short for me in some way. I feel like this is the most honest and true-to-me version of what it is like to navigate life and relationships with anxiety. For that alone, I am really glad I read this book!
